In an Inc. article, Marcel Schwantes outlines the 5 behaviors great leaders do. As we know, leadership is a blend of nature and nurture. While our natural talents play an important role in our performance, it is what we do with our experiences combined with our talents that set us apart from others.
Over the years coaching leaders, I have observed those who develop their emotional intelligence (EQ) by learning from their interpersonal experiences, are more likely to be high performing leaders. I believe 2 of the behaviors Marcel identifies in his article require the leader to have a high degree of EQ to effectively recognize employees and create psychological safety.
