In a recent Forbes article, Vitaly Alexandrov sites three leadership traits that drive results for leaders. While these traits are important for leaders to have, I have found many leaders to be lacking in at least one other critical competency, coaching.

In fact the first competency Alexandrov mentions, constructive communication, is about providing feedback to employees. I would argue that while feedback is necessary, coaching when done consistently and effectively is a much more valuable competency to employ with your team members. When delivered well it will provide the employee with a structure to solve their own problems by reflecting on options and deciding on the best path to take. The ultimate result will be less need for feedback.

This article provides you with the format to coach effectively, ultimately driving individual and team results.
