Last month, David Demarest, retired VP of Public Affairs for Stanford University, spoke out on leadership during a crisis. There have been many similar articles written since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, yet this one is probably the best that I have read to date.

It is filled with solid advice for all leaders. Whether you are a frontline manager or CEO, this is a must read. The advice of Mr. Demarest goes past the standard “communicate clearly” to additional advice such as “stand by your core values” and “think ahead”.  I especially like the recommendation of “Engage”.  Too often leaders in crisis take on the entire burden and don’t solicit advice from their team, leading to additional stress.

How would you rate yourself on these 7 recommendations? Which ones should you start doing or be doing more of?
